The FHFA cited multiple examples of appraisers using language that referred to an area’s racial makeup or immigrant population, with the most egregious being that an area with an influx of immigrants was described as “one spicy neighborhood.”
The study didn’t say if appraisals with language indicating possible bias were linked with lower property valuations.
