Mortgage Rates Hold Steady Amid Topsy-turvy Week

Mortgage rates were flat as markets digested a week of mixed economic news. So reports The Washington Post.

The 30-year fixed-rate average was 3.75% as of July 11, according to the latest data from Freddie Mac. That’s unchanged from the prior week and down from 4.53% a year earlier.

The 15-year fixed-rate average edged higher to 3.22% from 3.18% a week ago. It was 4.08% a year earlier.

“The recent stabilization in mortgage rates reflects modestly improving U.S. economic data and a more accommodative tone from the Federal Reserve to respond to the rising downside economic risk from trade tensions and soft global economic data,” Freddie Mac said.
