Rocket Mortgage Continues Its Innovative Marketing with Super Bowl Sweepstakes

In 2014, Rocket Mortgage offered a $1 billion (yes that’s a “b”) reward to anyone that could fill out a perfect March Madness bracket. In 2016, it sponsored the NCAA's first ever basketball game on an aircraft carrier (Michigan State vs North Carolina on the USS Carl Vinson).

Now, in keeping with its mantra of “First, Best, Only,” Rocket Mortgage is in the third year of its Super Bowl Squares Sweepstakes, a contest that is the only contest of it’s kind sponsored by the NFL.

On January 12th, Rocket Mortgage announced that entries were open for the world's largest official game of Super Bowl squares. This year, two grand prize winners will receive $500,000 each to use toward a dream home. Additionally, $50,000 will be awarded every time the score changes. Over the last two years, Rocket Mortgage has awarded a total of $3.3 million to 29 winners.

"Participants can track their numbers and have the chance of matching a winning number every time the score changes. To make sure the winners know they won, we call everyone who wins the $50,000 and $500,000 prizes shortly after they win.”

That’s got to be a fun call to make.

To make sure as many people as possible are able to participate, Rocket Mortgage is encouraging fans to share the sweepstakes registration information on their social pages and unlock more opportunities to win! Each time a follower or friend signs up with the entrant’s unique link, they will receive one extra square, up to 10 additional spots. New this year, anyone who has a referral sign up to play will be placed into a weekly drawing for a chance to win a $100 NFLSHop.com gift card. Every Friday throughout the sweepstakes, 100 winners will be randomly chosen for a total of $10,000 in prizes each week, making this year’ game bigger and better than ever before with $50,000 in additional prizes.

When asked about trying to increase the leverage that social media brings Hurbis said “That goes back to one of our founder, Dan Gilbert’s, foundational ISM’s (foundational principals used to shape the Rocket Mortgage culture) 'Obsessed with Finding a Better Way.' Our marketing team is constantly learning and looking for new ways to do things, new ways to stand out. The role of social and digital continue to develop. By offering new incentives we are encouraging influencers, enthusiasts, and general users to help us expand our communication, both outgoing and incoming”.

Working on unique, sports-oriented marketing programs is something a lot of marketing executives would like to do. But what is the most rewarding part? “While the Super Bowl Sweepstakes and the PGA Tour are events that require a lot of work, they are also events that are at the forefront of implementation and development of downtown Detroit, the area I grew up in.” Hurbis said. “Developing 'First, Best and Only' ideas is a challenge, but it is also a lot of fun. In addition, having the opportunity to work with a partner like the NFL is great and makes things fun. We brought them the idea, they liked it and we worked on it together.”

Those hoping to win big can enter for free at RocketMortgageSquares.com. Signing up is easy. Participants select one of the 100 squares on a 10-by-10 grid. After the entry period closes, each row and column will be assigned a random number between zero and nine. One axis of the grid will represent the last digit of the NFC Champion’s score and the other will align with the last digit of the AFC Champion’s score.
