FHA Proposes Mortgage Payment Cuts to Offset Higher Rates

The Federal Housing Administration has asked for public comment on a new proposal for an option for mortgage servicers to lower borrowers’ monthly payments for as long as five years. So reports DSNews.

Federal Housing AdministrationThe past year’s dramatic rise in interest rates has hampered the FHA’s current loan mitigation options because market rates may be higher than borrowers’ existing rates.

“When we saw that our existing loan modifications were no longer providing adequate payment relief, our team painstakingly explored every possible alternative to provide relief in the current rate environment, resulting in this innovative proposal," Assistant Secretary for Housing and Federal Housing Commissioner Julia Gordon said in a statement.
